João Trevisan b. 1986, Brasília, Brazil

João Trevisan's (Brasília, Brazil, 1986) artistic practice spans painting, sculpture, and performance. A graduate in Law and Geography, Trevisan began his artistic career in 2014. In his paintings, João applies successive layers of oil and encaustic on canvas and linen, creating textured surfaces that reveal and conceal hazy colors, often enhanced with white. His sculptural work originated from an exploration of balance, memory, and joints, using materials he collected along the railway tracks of Brasília, where he grew up. His Lugar Selvagem and Monochrome series are intimately scaled and meditate on memory, perception, and the passage of time. Trevisan builds his painted surfaces from short vertical strokes, leaving the paint in ridges and grooves across the linen. 

Trevisan has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Museu da Inconfidência, Ouro Preto; Simões de Assis, Curitiba; Galerie SLAG&RX, Paris; Museu de Arte Sacra, São Paulo; and Adelina Institut, São Paulo. His work is held in numerous public collections throughout Brazil, including Museu Nacional da República, Brasília; Museu de Belas Artes do Rio de Janeiro; Museu de Arte do Rio; Museu de Arte de Ribeirão Preto; Casa de Cultura da América Latina, Brasília; and Museu de Artes Plásticas de Anápolis.
