Mauve Vibe - This painting is about pleasure induced guilt, Catholic feeling guilty for feeling good, and making formal paintings for and about pleasure. The background/wall texture transpired from a memory of a neighbor’s unit in the apartment I grew up in in the 90s that had sponge painted walls. A Matisse inspired painting within the painting is an idea of a painting purchased from Ikea. The title is a play on “Maude Vibe” a millennial brand that makes vibrators whose tasteful minimal design permits their placement on a table top rather than cloistered away in a drawer.
