"The two drawings in the show come from a larger series of drawings called 3DATH. They came out of time filled with a lot of change and my experiences living in the city of Baltimore. I just graduated from art school, was working at Johns Hopkins Hospital and performing regularly in the then burgeoning Baltimore experimental music scene. Drawing was a way to continue to make work, especially in the confines of a small apartment in east Baltimore. The use of black ink was directly inspired by seeing grandmother’s calligraphy and her interest in East Asian brush painting. The drawings actually contain many of the themes that inform my work today in photography, music and video." - Jerry Lim
