This piece is also based on black-eyed peas. It’s named Juju (magic) bean due to its magical lucky power.
But Juju is also the nickname I have for my cousin’s son. The idea of bringing a child into the world we
exist in can seem terrifying, but it’s watching people like my cousin raise these bright, powerful children
that gives me hope for our future. On his 7th birthday this year, Juju and I talked about how every human
is magic, and it made me think of all the magic contained in this one bean.
