Study for Gregory and Giselle stems from a series of photographs Taggart took at the Poe residence in Brentwood. The figure in this study wears a jacket designed by Gregory Poe, a well-known designer in both Los Angeles and Tokyo. Years later, Taggart received a subscription promo from Granta, a British literary magazine, and noticed that the cover image had been taken from his painting of Gregory and Giselle—except it had been flipped and Giselle had been removed.
