Alma Berrow bends the mundane toward the uncanny: half-eaten oysters, scattered tarot cards, and cigarette stubs re-emerge as meticulously hand-molded ceramics, arranged like clues in a séance of memory. Working in a register of playful surrealism, she builds life-size stage sets that braid personal recollection with shared ritual, turning childhood mud-pies and late-night divinations into "fake-real" objects that hover between joke and reliquary. In these miniature tableaux, humor becomes a portal to the witchy and the unknown; nostalgia, a device for summoning what still hums beneath everyday surfaces.
Alma Berrow (b. 1992; lives and works in London) has had solo exhibitions at Megan Mulrooney, Los Angeles, CA; LAMB Gallery, London, UK, and Galeria Hilario Galguera, Mexico City. Group presentations include Cerámica Suro: A Story of Collaboration, Production, and Collecting in the Contemporary Arts at the Dallas Museum of Art (2023); Form: (Women) Makers at Sotheby's, London (2023); In Real Life at Timothy Taylor, London (2021).
