This piece is based on the Palestinian Olive trees. There are multiple types of Olive trees grown and
harvested in Palestine, but tending to olive groves goes back hundreds of years. Some of these trees have
been dated to be over 5,000 years old. The trees have become symbolic of hope, heritage, and
steadfastness of the Palestinian people. The roots and twisted trunks of the trees have been used as a
symbol for the pain of the Palestinian people. But they have also been a source of independent income
for families for generations. It is for this reason that the Olive groves have been targeted by the IDF. They
have been uprooting 800,000 olive trees since 1967 in Gaza.
